The pedal industry as a whole revolves around several different circuits and their variations, some companies work hard to break the boundaries such as the likes of TC Electronic but most companies look at what sells and add their own spin/USP to the products.
With Behringer, USP is often price, which means that players just starting can try more gear and find their own "flavour" without investing thousands into what may be wrong for them.
The UV300 is based on the Boss VB-2, which features a very interesting use of the footswitch! Some players love to leave a subtle vibrato on at all times (especially in a stereo rig, to one amp). Others like to use more dramatic settings but more briefly, so the footswitch allows for momentary on & off as well as normal on/off.
This simply means holding the footswitch down will engage the effect until you remove your foot. In unlatch mode the opposite is true!
