Dan Armstrong Purple Peaker

Dan Armstrong Purple Peaker

Purple Peekaboo

Kent Armstrong is the second generation of guitar wizards the Armstrong family has produced, indeed Kent's own son Aaron now famously creates pickups too and Kent's father Dan ran a great guitar repair shop in New York City. With such a lineage it’s unsurprising to learn that their pickups are some of the best in the world and have been used by greats such as Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, Matt Bellamy and even members of the TonePedia team have them in some of their own favourite guitars.

Kent Also made a few "pedals" which we not the normal floor bound type pedals but instead they connected directly to the guitars output jack socket.
The purple peaker is indeed one such example ,It has a three position switch to select between, one EQ peek, two EQ peaks together, or to bypass the EQ peaks but still gives a line driver type push to your signal.
Position 1 provides 12db peaking at 4000 Hz which gives the instrument more "presence" or "bite".
Position 2 produces the the same as position 1 plus a 7db peak at 200 Hz which feels like low end punch.

The Purple Peaker makes weak-sounding instruments sound fuller, and full-sounding instruments sound super. It has been used by musicians who want to record themselves by plugging directly into a tape machine without going through an amp.
